Step 3:
What
might these events mean?
From
these events I learned that students are more motivated to produce excellent pieces
when they have an end goal in mind, especially if this end goal includes
sharing their piece with others. The way
students worked diligently on their work by staying focused and adhering to
revisions, showed me that students took pride in their work and were eager to
share a finalized copy with others. From
the publishing party, I was also able to see how other students responded to
small moment books, and the qualities of good writers. They were attentive while students were
sharing, and showed genuine interest in these books. They paid attention to detail and shared
positive and supportive responses to the authors writing. I learned that students were able to write
small moment narratives and correct teacher revisions to their stories. I also learned that students need work in
practice how to use classroom given references, such as the world wall or their
word journals, and I learned they also need more practice working with
partners. They often got off task with
partners, and also were often unable to locate words on the word wall or even
locate the word wall. Students also need
work in practicing how to read revision marks such as capitol letters, lower
case letters, punctuation, inserting words, and correcting word wall words that
are miss spelled. Overall through the
events of this unit, I learned that students can be greatly motivated by the
task, and need work in practicing how to use classroom references.
