I really like that you are working with vocabulary with a young grade. I know there is always a tone of spelling but I feel that vocabulary is not focused on. I also like that you are taking the thought that the more vocabulary that is understood now the better their products in other subject areas will be. The only thing I would say is when you are teaching make sure you make the connection that vocabulary had to other areas of their learning. If they know the connections before hand it might be easier for them to see the connection and apply it.
I also really like that you have the lesson be both student and teacher-led. By having part of the lesson be student-led, it will hopefully keep then more engaged in the lesson. I also like that you already know the norms that you want to be in place. This will help you implement them more efficiently in the classroom.
The only big question I have is what activities do you want to come up with. I know there are a lot of great ideas out there for vocabulary and especially with young students. Also what learning strategies,
concepts, and consciousness do you want to develop? Other than that I think you are on the right track and I can wait to see how it turns out.
