During
this lesson my students really excelled with the story part of the lesson. They
were able to answer questions with ease and very quickly regarding the story.
My SI students were read the main selection before hand so they were able to
answer more questions about the selection than usual. Beyond my practice, I
learned that my students are getting very good at identifying details within a
story, including details of genre. However, a majority of students struggled to
recognize the words way and come and therefore really struggled with the
worksheet that they had to fill in the blank with the words come, my, way, in,
on. My students that need extra support will be re-taught during small group
time during daily five time to ensure extra support by reduce number of
students per teacher. I will simply re-teach the exact same thing as I did
before so they will be hearing the same lesson twice in hopes they will retain
it. Also I will rephrase something’s into more simple ways within the lesson to
ensure their understanding. If I were to re-teach this lesson again I would do
a couple of things differently. One would be to just go over the high frequency
words a few more times sounding them out and blending them together in the
start of the lesson to hopefully ensure them to be recognize them quickly. Also
I think I would do the fill in the blank worksheet as a whole group instead of
individually to help support my lower students in completing the worksheet
correctly without frustration. Regarding my core practice I have learned it is
somewhat hard to implement the practicing of vocabulary in a whole group
setting because all my students are on very different levels so some students
can easily identify a word, which gives away the word to the other students
instantly, reducing the other students learning. I need to work on finding ways
to differentiate to make whole group vocabulary work, work for all students.
